This year’s theme for the Season of Creation (September 1 to October 4) is “Living Water,” with the symbol “Immersion in Living Water.” Inspired by Ezekiel 47:9–12, the theme invites us to reflect on God’s life-giving waters that bring healing, renewal, and flourishing for all creation, and to consider our shared responsibility to protect and restore the Earth’s ecosystems.
For the Love of Creation invites you into moments to pray, learn and act during the Season of Creation. See the list of events and actions below. If you have an event or action to add to this list, please email flc.pac@gmail.com.
Wishing you a blessed Season of Creation!

September 19-23 – Seniors Climate Witness: A Week of Public Witness and Nonviolent Action in Ottawa
Seniors’ Climate Witness is a week of public witness and nonviolent action in Ottawa calling on the federal government to reject new fossil fuel pipelines, uphold its climate commitments, respect Indigenous rights, and protect a livable future for our children, grandchildren, and future generations. Seniors have a unique opportunity—and responsibility—to use their voices, experience, and willingness to make personal sacrifices to help protect the future for those who will live longest with the consequences of today’s decisions. Many participants are also motivated by faith and a commitment to care for Creation, seek justice, and be good ancestors for future generations.
Whether you are a senior, a person of faith, or an ally of any age, you are warmly invited to join us to learn more about the campaign and the many ways you can participate.

September 20 – Cross-Country Day of Action for Migrant Rights
This fall, the federal government is deciding the future of immigration: who gets permanent residency, who remains temporary, and who is pushed out. On September 20, one day before Parliament returns, join people across the country taking action to demand:
-
- Status for all: Permanent resident status for migrants already here, and permanent resident status on arrival for migrants coming in the future.
- Renew permits: Automatically renew expired and expiring work and study permits, restore status, and ensure no one is pushed into exploitation or deportation.
- End exploitation: End employer-tied permits. Ensure equal labour rights, safe housing, healthcare, services, and real enforcement against abusive bosses.
- Stop deportations: End removals, detention, family separation, and attacks on refugees.
Climate change, economic inequality, and displacement are increasingly intertwined, with many migrants bearing the brunt of environmental and social crises. This Day of Action is a meaningful way to live out the Season of Creation’s call to justice, solidarity, and community, standing alongside migrants in the pursuit of dignity, belonging, and a future where all can flourish. Stop Coal! Call your MP
Coal power generation in Canada is supposed to end by 2030. But, thanks to a loophole that allows Saskatchewan to follow its own coal rules instead of the federal rules, the province wants to keep coal plants running far beyond that, at a potential cost of $26 billion—or even $46 billion by another estimate.
That’s why Citizens for Public Justice (CPJ) is gathering people across Canada for Stop Coal! Call your MP. Together, we’re calling Members of Parliament and asking them to:
-
- Close the loophole that allows Saskatchewan to continue its costly coal plan, and
- Fund a real just transition for coal workers.
To take part in the campaign or to share it with your network, please visit the Stop Coal! Call your MP homepage.
Help reach 1,000 signatures for peace by September 20!
Canadian Voice of Women for Peace is calling on Prime Minister Carney and Minister for Women and Gender Equality Rechie Valdez to choose #CareNotWarfare and invest in people and the planet—not militarization.
Canadian military spending has risen dramatically, while communities continue to face urgent needs for housing, health care, education, climate action, public transit, Indigenous justice, international aid, and more.
On September 21, International Day of Peace, Canadian Voice of Women for Peace (VOW) and WILPF will present our open letter to the federal government in Ottawa, with a press conference and rally. We’re also inviting people across Canada to take local action in solidarity.

Eastern Synod Artificial Intelligence Fast – Pray before you AI-generate
The Eastern Synod Climate Justice Committee invites all members of the Eastern Synod congregations, and anyone beyond who feels called to participate, to engage in a fast from personal use of artificial intelligence. The ELCIC is currently engaged in a process to discern the appropriate usage of AI in the church context. In the meantime, we are inviting people to take a months-long fast from AI not in order to reject the technology, but in order to take time apart in order to faithfully and prayerfully consider all dimensions to the issue, contemplating both its benefits and its negative consequences. A collateral advantage of taking an AI fast is that, as Christians around the world strive to be more mindful of Creation in their personal choices this month, fasting from AI is a way to reduce one’s individual environmental footprint.
