In response to COP27 and a global call for prayer, we are joining in with the faith groups around Canada for a Candles for COP27: Vigils for Climate Justice, with a Jewish twist. As Shabbat (the Sabbath) ends, we’ll intentionally use the traditional Jewish ritual of Havdalah to leave the day of rest and welcome in a new week of action. This ritual marks a separation from a mindset of inaction to a mindset of action. And now is the time to act on climate change.
This Havdalah is led by Edmonton’s Temple Beth Ora and Calgary’s Temple Bnai Tikvah, and will take place online.
For the Havdalah ceremony, please have with you:
• A Havdalah candle (or 2 regular candles)
• A bunch of fresh herbs or sweet smelling spices
• A cup of wine / grape juice / water
People of all faiths and from around Canada are welcome to join us!
